Lots of Scots
I recently blazed through another round of research on the Scottish side of my family tree at the web site Scotlands People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/. While I found (mostly) what I was looking for, there were the inevitable mistakes. What makes this a great site, is that the Scottish government (The General Registrar's Office to be precise, or the GRO) has scanned birth, marriage, and death records from 1855-present as well as the Old Parish Records (OPR) up to 1855 (the year that registering BMDs became compulsory). Of course, one is charged for looking at each individual document in the form pre-paid credits. Inevitably, there are "lucky guesses" and therefore, "unlucky guesses". I have years of "unlucky guesses" (or mis-educated guesses) that I'll post here in the coming weeks!
